Kid K and Arlington…

Written by Dave on December 10th, 2008 | 0 Comments

If you read this blog often (and most of you don’t), you will know that I primarily focus on the Cubs.  While this is my life’s passion, I am also blessed to live in such close proximity to Rangers’ Ballpark in Arlington, where the mighty Texas Rangers play, so every now and again, I have a HSO on the Rangers and how their team is managed.

The Calm Before the Ryan Express

Written by paul on April 29th, 2008 | 0 Comments

In my continuing efforts to keep the world abreast of the status of the sinking ship that is the Texas Rangers. Listening to the radio today an article by Buster Olney of ESPN was read concerning the Rangers. It sounded a lot like the chorus of us that are ready for some change in the right direction. I have to agree. I am so desperate to see some improvement I would back even the most aggressive moves, even trading Michael Young. He is a good player that is getting paid well, if we can get some hope for the future I am all for it. Washington has to go and possibly John Daniels. To read an article from a nation baseball expert (I think the ESPN baseball guys are some of the best in the country) saying the team is out of control, whether it is because of him or not a change must be made. The pendulum has swung from micro-manager Buck to lackadaisical, player’s manager Ron Washington. Is there not a manager that could right this ship or do we need to mothball it and start over? Either way, Nolan Ryan has a huge task ahead of him. I don’t think he has walked away from many challenges and I don’t think he was on the losing end that often either. I am optimistic after going to the game this weekend, as always, it was fun. The kids had fun and so did I. A few bags over heads but not too many yet. To sum it up, the Rangers win on Sunday tied them for last in the MLB with Washington, any coincidence?

For Every Red Sox or Yankee, There Is a Texas Ranger

As you go through story after story of how the Red Sox are full of greatness and the Yankees will once again be the beast that they always are, please light a candle in hopes that those teams that are being pounded by the Sox and Yanks will have a prayer someday. Please understand that the fan of a team that absolutely stinks, has it’s way of being a badge of honor. Living though the tough times makes the good times so much better. I know that the Spankees and Red Sox had a stretch of awful baseball but they have seen the promised land.

Rockies Continue to Do the Right Thing

Written by paul on March 5th, 2008 | 1 Comment

Have they got it figured out? Is there a magic solution to putting together a winner? I don’t know but you can’t say they aren’t trying. Unlike their hockey counterparts, the Colorado Rockies are doing their best to hold on to some of that mojo they had last year. I couldn’t believe the run they went on last year, it was amazing. Baseball has been my true love since I was big enough to call balls and strikes from my Dad’s lap. What they did last year was a look back at the way it used to be. Homegrown, young talent with some key additions creating a mixture that would make most chemist very happy. They performed and are now being rewarded. As noted on this ESPN article, they have resigned the 4th young key ingredient to a new deal.
