Umps to Make the Call on Replay, Doesn’t Make It Any Better
Written by Chris on June 14th, 2008 | 1 CommentI’m a purist of sorts; I love baseball for it’s undeniable human element. At least 51% of that human element is made up of the fallibility of the umpires — they’re going to collectively make one mistake minimum in each game they officiate. Sure, the fact umpires aren’t perfect affects me when a call goes against the Sox or when the course of the game is obviously altered, but it doesn’t mean I love that part of the game any less than the athleticism, atmosphere, and culture. This is where my line in the sand is drawn when it comes to instant reply. Continue reading...
The Best MLB Draft Ever
Written by paul on June 3rd, 2008 | 0 CommentsAs a baseball fan it has always bothered me that the Negro leagues has been and add-on topic in the conversation of the best players ever. I am remiss in the fact that I don’t know a lot of their names, but I am not remiss in my admiration of the entire concept of a separate league that played with as much, if not more, passion, pride, and love of the game as those who dared to put themselves in the spotlight at a time when blacks were in the least, persecuted. As a white male, I do not have the a true understanding of what it must have been like. Continue reading...
Things That Need To Be Addressed: Baseball
Written by paul on May 20th, 2008 | 1 CommentBud Selig is the worst commissioner there has ever been, in any sport. He is an absolute boob. I understand the fact that he is basically an owners puppet but some of the things that have happened under his watch make me so angry that they let this moron ruin the game that was pretty much untouchable. The Great American Pastime. But he managed to screw it up. Here are some that make my blood boil: Continue reading...

Barry Bonds: Maybe It’s Not Collusion
Written by chris on May 8th, 2008 | 2 CommentsThe MLB Players Union is looking into possible collusion amongst the owners in how Barry Bonds’ free agency has played out. The issues stems from the fact that there are teams that on paper could use his service yet he hasn’t received a single offer form any of the MLB teams. Continue reading...
The Calm Before the Ryan Express
Written by paul on April 29th, 2008 | 0 CommentsIn my continuing efforts to keep the world abreast of the status of the sinking ship that is the Texas Rangers. Listening to the radio today an article by Buster Olney of ESPN was read concerning the Rangers. It sounded a lot like the chorus of us that are ready for some change in the right direction. I have to agree. I am so desperate to see some improvement I would back even the most aggressive moves, even trading Michael Young. He is a good player that is getting paid well, if we can get some hope for the future I am all for it. Washington has to go and possibly John Daniels. To read an article from a nation baseball expert (I think the ESPN baseball guys are some of the best in the country) saying the team is out of control, whether it is because of him or not a change must be made. The pendulum has swung from micro-manager Buck to lackadaisical, player’s manager Ron Washington. Is there not a manager that could right this ship or do we need to mothball it and start over? Either way, Nolan Ryan has a huge task ahead of him. I don’t think he has walked away from many challenges and I don’t think he was on the losing end that often either. I am optimistic after going to the game this weekend, as always, it was fun. The kids had fun and so did I. A few bags over heads but not too many yet. To sum it up, the Rangers win on Sunday tied them for last in the MLB with Washington, any coincidence? Continue reading...

Yankees Appeal Suspension, Pose Weak Argument Using Strong Double-Negatives
Written by Chris on March 17th, 2008 | 1 Comment(Full disclosure: Yankees suck; Derek Jeter drinks wine coolers; year 2000 and all those I’m-a-Sox-fan prerequisites. You should approach this with the understanding that I’d offer to buy George Steinbrenner a drink, but I’d take him to a bar that only serves Zima.) Continue reading...
