Fight! Fight!
Written by Dave on August 5th, 2008 | 0 CommentsLast night, Prince Fielder decided that he was going to prove to the whole world that he is a team leader by shoving one of his teammates into the bench in the dugout. Less than a week after Steve Smith gets suspended for two games for punching a teammate at practice (we talkin’ ’bout practice!), [...]

Trade Deadline Anxiety
Written by paul on July 31st, 2008 | 0 CommentsThe nonwaiver trade deadline is rapidly approaching at 3pm local time. I am beginning to get the feeling deep down inside my baseball guts that the Texas Rangers are completely incapable of improving the team with deadline deals. So many times they have been burned. So many times they have been sellers and just trying to get what they can. At this point they are in a position of strength with a few pieces that are actually covetted by others. Laird mst noteably is in most of the rumors still flying around. Ediie Guardado is still being floated and even Bradley may still be in the works. The latest reports are that the Rangers are asking for a top teir pitching prospect from whoever they deal with. I feel that this organization can make a good deal when they have a chance to get everybody in agreement. Continue reading...
Big, Sweaty Initials

Reader Jim sends along this question:
CC Sabathia was constantly going to his forehead and wiping the sweat. Home team TV coverage kept cutting away right after he moistened his fingers, so I never saw him wipe it off. What’s the rule these days about going to the mouth/forehead while on the mound? [...]
12innings (Quik)Trip to the ballpark
Written by Dave on July 28th, 2008 | 0 CommentsYour illustrious 12innings.com staff met for a brain storming session two weeks ago, and through a myriad of brilliance and crushingly poor ideas, we did manage to serve up one idea that would actually benefit you, the reader. “Let’s go to an ACTUAL baseball game!”, we all cried in unison.
Will the Real Texas Rangers Please Stand Up?
Written by paul on July 24th, 2008 | 0 CommentsOh, there you are. The hapless, can’t get out of their own way, non-pitching, injury prone, and otherwise serious kick in the groin. Since I wrtote my last entry they have managed to go on a 3 game series with the Twinkies and lost 2 of 3 while scoring only 3 runs. Winning a 1-0 game which in itself is impressive for them to get a shutout. Then on to Chicago for 3 with the White Sox and lose 2 of 3 there as well. Winning the first game 6-1 with homers from Hank Blalock and Josh and then get dominated by Buerle who kills them as often as he can. Then yesterday, excuse me while I heave in to my mid-season sickness bag, the Rangers “closers” C.J. Wilson and everyday Eddie Guarddo commence to giving up 5 runs in the eighth surrendering an 8-5 lead to lose 10-8. Continue reading...
The Media Darlings
Written by paul on July 18th, 2008 | 0 CommentsAs the Yankee Stadium lovefest dwindles and the teams get back to “work”, I had to take another shot at the media. It has always been evident that if you don’t live in BosWash you really are not worthy of the sports media’s time. How convenient that the best story of the All-Star break was Josh Hamilton from our lovely home here in north central Texas. He brought the spotlight on the team and did not disappoint. I just wonder if he would not be the most loved player in baseball if he was playing in Boston or NY. The East coast bias drives me nuts sometimes. Continue reading...
Getting Fired Up
Written by paul on July 9th, 2008 | 0 CommentsTonight is the first night in 2+ months that I am heading to the Ballpark in Arlington. I previously posted that I would not spend a dime on tickets in support of the Texas Rangers until they found some direction. Well, I think they have. They have been playing good baseball recently and have actually broken through the .500 mark that had been dogging them for the last month or so. They would get to it, go 1 game up and then loose it and go back down 1 or 2 games below. As of now they are 47-44 adn beat the division leading Angels last night. They have called up another pitcher from AA for a spot start against Jared Weaver so it should be fun. Continue reading...
