World Baseball Classic or Spring Training?

Written on January 27th, 2009 | 0 Comments

Does the thought of either on of those make your ears purk up and the recesses of you brain that contain all the baseball minutia start firing on overdrive? It does it to me!

Gold Gloves and Hot Stoves

Written on November 11th, 2008 | 0 Comments

The Gold Gloves were issued last week and I always end up scratching my head at these. Michael Young, God love him, of my Texas Rangers is not the best defensive shortstop in the American League. He has limited range and can make the “routine” play but I would not compare him to Ozzie Smith, Alan Trammell, Omar Visquel, or even Cal Ripken when he played short. Even A-Fraud was as good if not a better defensive shortstop. But I digress.

Playoffs Are So Good

Written on October 14th, 2008 | 0 Comments

I was at a friends house for dinner on Sunday as we watched the Cowboys give away a victory and I kept seeing the ads for game 3 of the NLCS and I got more excited for that than the Cowboy game. Baseball is my first and true love when it comes to sports as I have probably said before. The fact that I can get jazzed for a NLCS game in which I could care less about who wins more than the local football team illustrates this. I don’t know if it is the playoff atmosphere or the flow of the game or the one on one battles between hitter and pitcher but to me it is the great game.

Fantasy Baseball Excitement and Disappointment

Written on September 11th, 2008 | 0 Comments

For all of us that are in head to head fantasy leagues, you are either starting your playoffs or are already into them or maybe even eliminated. I worked real hard to get into the playoffs in both leagues that I am in. I checked it religiously and made diligent moves and acquisitions. I thought I was in good shape.

Excitement and Anxiety

Written on August 25th, 2008 | 0 Comments

As the feelings of dismay from the lack of any kind of movement buy the Rangers at the trading deadline and the fact that they went 2-7 on the last home stand I haven’t had much feelings of any kind towards them. Then, I fire up FeedDemon and low and behold it see that Millwood, Padilla, and Catalanato cleared wavers. Excitement filled my heart thinking that we might be in the market to move some people for the future and then the anxiety hit me thinking that the only real starters we have had just cleared waivers.

The Dog Days of Summer

Written on August 20th, 2008 | 0 Comments

In the sport that claims the to be the home of the “boys of summer”, the boys are playing and winning while the dogs are becoming what they really are. The Texas Rangers have officially become the Texas Rangers again. No pitching to be found, players are becoming disabled faster than in Iraq, and the bats are silent. I know that this is my home team and that is the team I follow closest, for the others how about the Yankees treading water, the Phillies hanging on, the Brewers, the Cards, the Astros (maybe), the D-backs and Dodgers.

Trade Deadline Anxiety

Written on July 31st, 2008 | 0 Comments

The nonwaiver trade deadline is rapidly approaching at 3pm local time. I am beginning to get the feeling deep down inside my baseball guts that the Texas Rangers are completely incapable of improving the team with deadline deals. So many times they have been burned. So many times they have been sellers and just trying to get what they can. At this point they are in a position of strength with a few pieces that are actually covetted by others. Laird mst noteably is in most of the rumors still flying around. Ediie Guardado is still being floated and even Bradley may still be in the works. The latest reports are that the Rangers are asking for a top teir pitching prospect from whoever they deal with. I feel that this organization can make a good deal when they have a chance to get everybody in agreement.

Will the Real Texas Rangers Please Stand Up?

Written on July 24th, 2008 | 0 Comments

Oh, there you are. The hapless, can’t get out of their own way, non-pitching, injury prone, and otherwise serious kick in the groin. Since I wrtote my last entry they have managed to go on a 3 game series with the Twinkies and lost 2 of 3 while scoring only 3 runs. Winning a 1-0 game which in itself is impressive for them to get a shutout. Then on to Chicago for 3 with the White Sox and lose 2 of 3 there as well. Winning the first game 6-1 with homers from Hank Blalock and Josh and then get dominated by Buerle who kills them as often as he can. Then yesterday, excuse me while I heave in to my mid-season sickness bag, the Rangers “closers” C.J. Wilson and everyday Eddie Guarddo commence to giving up 5 runs in the eighth surrendering an 8-5 lead to lose 10-8.
