Trade Deadline Anxiety

Written by Paul Barton on July 31st, 2008 | 0 Comments

The nonwaiver trade deadline is rapidly approaching at 3pm local time. I am beginning to get the feeling deep down inside my baseball guts that the Texas Rangers are completely incapable of improving the team with deadline deals. So many times they have been burned. So many times they have been sellers and just trying to get what they can. At this point they are in a position of strength with a few pieces that are actually covetted by others. Laird mst noteably is in most of the rumors still flying around. Ediie Guardado is still being floated and even Bradley may still be in the works. The latest reports are that the Rangers are asking for a top teir pitching prospect from whoever they deal with. I feel that this organization can make a good deal when they have a chance to get everybody in agreement.

For a trade deadline deal to occur, you have to have a GM that has confidence and the ability to pull it off without getting consensus. I don’t think JD has either. He did, but I think Nolan has his reins in hand. If Nolan wants to make a deal it will happen. Maybe this team is too attatched to the players on the roster now? I am hoping that they can change the trend and make a meaningful and positive deal that shows everyone inside and outside the team, that the Rangers are for real and want to contend, not just be content.
