Getting Fired Up

Written by Paul Barton on July 9th, 2008 | 0 Comments

Tonight is the first night in 2+ months that I am heading to the Ballpark in Arlington. I previously posted that I would not spend a dime on tickets in support of the Texas Rangers until they found some direction. Well, I think they have. They have been playing good baseball recently and have actually broken through the .500 mark that had been dogging them for the last month or so. They would get to it, go 1 game up and then loose it and go back down 1 or 2 games below. As of now they are 47-44 adn beat the division leading Angels last night. They have called up another pitcher from AA for a spot start against Jared Weaver so it should be fun.

The most exciting thing about the Rangers in the last few days is that we have 4 All-Stars! Kinsler, Hamilton, Bradley, and Young are heading to Yankee stadium to represent, and represent they will (I hope). This team has taken on a whole new personality since the last time I wrote about them. They seem to have a confidence that has not been there in years. It feels like they all believe they can get it done, and that makes baseball fun again around here.

From a broader baseball perspective, I have a great love of the whole sport and the scene. For the first time in a long time I was flipping the radio stations between the local station and the Worldwide leader because they were talking baseball for a good 45 minutes. I actually sat in the car and listened after I got to work because i didn’t want to miss it. Baseball has an effect on me that makes everything else around me just melt away. The more into the elements of the game the more I want. I love talking prospects, trades, call-ups, rosters, pitching staffs, stats, even ballpark food. (BTW it’s $1 Hot Dogs tonight) If I could live in baseball I would. After hearing Joe Buck’s comments and feeling the way I do about baseball I got to thinking that if he doesn’t want his job anymore, I would be willing to jump in for a fraction of what he makes.

To take for granted the poition that he has had handed to him is more of an outrage than the fact that he was complaining about it. We all gripe about our jobs but I know I am privilaged to be writning these blogs, working in a field that I enjoy, and have a family and for that I am thankful. I hope Joe has come to his senses. For real, if you are looking to replace him, email me.
