Why I love baseball
Written by Dave on June 30th, 2008 | 1 CommentBaseball, in my opinion, is the greatest sport. Sure, that is debatable (let’s go get a beer and talk) but I am prepared to at least make a case. Here are my top ten reasons why baseball is the greatest sport: Continue reading...
Heads Are Rolling - Let the Fire Sales Begin

Umps to Make the Call on Replay, Doesn’t Make It Any Better
Written by Chris on June 14th, 2008 | 1 CommentI’m a purist of sorts; I love baseball for it’s undeniable human element. At least 51% of that human element is made up of the fallibility of the umpires — they’re going to collectively make one mistake minimum in each game they officiate. Sure, the fact umpires aren’t perfect affects me when a call goes against the Sox or when the course of the game is obviously altered, but it doesn’t mean I love that part of the game any less than the athleticism, atmosphere, and culture. This is where my line in the sand is drawn when it comes to instant reply. Continue reading...
Dissecting the Manny and Youk Sideshow
Written by Chris on June 6th, 2008 | 0 CommentsJust a few outs after Covelli Crisp instigated the thirty-ninth chapter in The Red Sox and Rays: The Feud Not Too Many People Understand, Sox left-fielder Manny Ramirez and first baseman Kevin Youkilis either yelled at each other or nearly came to blows, depending on which version of the story you hear. Anyone that has any actual first-hand knowledge of the situation isn’t talking much about it, but here are some possible reasons for the angst between these two training buddies. As always, full disclosure: I’m a Red Sox fan, and the Rays’ new-this-season logo and unis are mortifying. So there. Continue reading...

The Best MLB Draft Ever
Written by paul on June 3rd, 2008 | 0 CommentsAs a baseball fan it has always bothered me that the Negro leagues has been and add-on topic in the conversation of the best players ever. I am remiss in the fact that I don’t know a lot of their names, but I am not remiss in my admiration of the entire concept of a separate league that played with as much, if not more, passion, pride, and love of the game as those who dared to put themselves in the spotlight at a time when blacks were in the least, persecuted. As a white male, I do not have the a true understanding of what it must have been like. Continue reading...
John Smoltz Heads Back to the ‘Pen for Braves
Written by Chris on June 2nd, 2008 | 0 CommentsWhen you talk about John Smoltz it’s hard not to think about whether or not he’s one of the most unfortunate souls in baseball. His talent over the years is undeniable — John Smoltz is an excellent pitcher. When the great pitchers of this generation are talked about, though, how often do you hear Smoltz’s name among Clemens (steroids notwithstanding), Pettitte (ditto), Santana, and Rivera? Overshadowed by these names, Smoltz has been for the Braves both a dominant starter and a strong force from the bullpen, but this last stint beyond the outfield fence might be his last.
