Prosecutors Now Looking At Someone Not Named “Clemens”
Written by Chris Roberts on March 12th, 2008 | 0 CommentsFederal prosecutors are investigating whether a doctor illegally prescribed drugs for Major League Baseball players, The New York Times reported Wednesday, citing three lawyers who were briefed on the investigation.
Ramon Scruggs, a physician previously linked to major leaguers Troy Glaus and Scott Schoeneweis in media reports, is the target of the investigation by prosecutors in the Northern District of California, the newspaper reported.
There’s no down side to this, right? While I’m not too keen on the idea of full-on government intrusion into the business, but baseball — read, Bud Selig, et al — have been totally irresponsible to this regard. It’s nice seeing some sort of outside accountability.
Aside from that, it’s also nice to see this investigation reach beyond Clemens and McNamee. While Clemens is the biggest name in this instance, staying focused on him won’t help the cause of cleaning up the game.
So, where do we go from here? The feds will obviously run down the trail Dr. Scruggs has made for them. A month or two from now will there be a bigger name than Clemens in the mix?
