Gold Gloves and Hot Stoves
Written by Paul Barton on November 11th, 2008 | 0 CommentsThe Gold Gloves were issued last week and I always end up scratching my head at these. Michael Young, God love him, of my Texas Rangers is not the best defensive shortstop in the American League. He has limited range and can make the “routine” play but I would not compare him to Ozzie Smith, Alan Trammell, Omar Visquel, or even Cal Ripken when he played short. Even A-Fraud was as good if not a better defensive shortstop. But I digress. Continue reading...
Playoffs Are So Good
Written by Paul Barton on October 14th, 2008 | 0 CommentsI was at a friends house for dinner on Sunday as we watched the Cowboys give away a victory and I kept seeing the ads for game 3 of the NLCS and I got more excited for that than the Cowboy game. Baseball is my first and true love when it comes to sports as I have probably said before. The fact that I can get jazzed for a NLCS game in which I could care less about who wins more than the local football team illustrates this. I don’t know if it is the playoff atmosphere or the flow of the game or the one on one battles between hitter and pitcher but to me it is the great game. Continue reading...

Gut Punch
Written by Dave Hoekstra on October 2nd, 2008 | 1 CommentI have a hard time explaining to others just how I feel about baseball. I am passionate about baseball, but not just as a fan. I am a student of the game. I get my jollies from a well executed hit and run just as much as I would a three run homer. Continue reading...
Fantasy Baseball Excitement and Disappointment
Written by Paul Barton on September 11th, 2008 | 0 CommentsFor all of us that are in head to head fantasy leagues, you are either starting your playoffs or are already into them or maybe even eliminated. I worked real hard to get into the playoffs in both leagues that I am in. I checked it religiously and made diligent moves and acquisitions. I thought I was in good shape. Continue reading...
Excitement and Anxiety
Written by Paul Barton on August 25th, 2008 | 0 CommentsAs the feelings of dismay from the lack of any kind of movement buy the Rangers at the trading deadline and the fact that they went 2-7 on the last home stand I haven’t had much feelings of any kind towards them. Then, I fire up FeedDemon and low and behold it see that Millwood, Padilla, and Catalanato cleared wavers. Excitement filled my heart thinking that we might be in the market to move some people for the future and then the anxiety hit me thinking that the only real starters we have had just cleared waivers. The Dog Days of Summer
Written by Paul Barton on August 20th, 2008 | 0 CommentsIn the sport that claims the to be the home of the “boys of summer”, the boys are playing and winning while the dogs are becoming what they really are. The Texas Rangers have officially become the Texas Rangers again. No pitching to be found, players are becoming disabled faster than in Iraq, and the bats are silent. I know that this is my home team and that is the team I follow closest, for the others how about the Yankees treading water, the Phillies hanging on, the Brewers, the Cards, the Astros (maybe), the D-backs and Dodgers. Continue reading...
